about

Not really written about myself. But then again, a lot that I relate to.

lyrics

BILLY

When Billy was a kid , no silver spoon to suck
Survived on his wits, and a little bit of luck
Wore ragged clothes, and sorrow, sometimes his old mans fist
And what he’d never had, he never missed

Left home and went to work the first day that he could
Trying to be a man, at just fifteen years old
He bought-an-old- guitar with his first months pay
Even though he couldn’t play
But it was something, of his own, that he could hold

He learned to play as he learned to work and never shirked a chore
But never- stooped to selling Kirby’s, or bibles door to door
That old guitar went with him through marriages and kids
Breakups and breakdowns, damn near on the skids

He had ups and downs hit the bottom lost most everything
But that old guitar pulled him through time and time again
It held the memories, and nightmares, a sense of right and wrong
And every time he picked it up, they shared story, or a song

Now looking back he wouldn’t change one single thing
He’s just older and the guitar’s gone through many sets of strings
Now you- might find them together telling story singing song
An old man and a beaten up guitar

As a singer he was only less than average
But he told a damn good story out of tune
He believed in make believe had secrets hidden up his sleeve
Kept stars in his pockets, wore a tattoo of the moon
He’s had wins and he’s had losses but he’s never lost for words
There was very little he’d not seen and nothing he’d not heard
So if you’re feeling lost in life Not sure where you are
Go out and buy yourself an old guitar
